The blog of a photographic artist...........
Welcome to my blog. This will give me a place to share with you my journey as a photographic artist. I hope to share with you not only the images I capture and create but also the feelings and experiences that are a part of my journey in art. I hope you will enjoy the posts, the images and our time together here.
Hello my friends and welcome to the very first entry into my new blog "The Art of Realism". Since this is my first post I want to take this opportunity to tell you a little about myself, my journey, my art and what inspires my work. I hope you will enjoy this blog and that perhaps you will decide to follow it regularly so you too can enjoy this magnificent journey with me.
I am often asked if I simply became an artist by choice. The short answer to that question is no. In fact, my evolution into an artist has been a long and sometimes complex process. For the first 12 years of my working life as an adult I was in a very stress filled and consuming profession. While I value those years and the vast experience and knowledge that I gained within its world I knew there was more for me. I made the decision to follow my heart and do something that inspired me and gave me a sense of freedom and creativity. I knew that photography was the basic vehicle for that to happen. I took the step and ventured back for more education in the field of photography to provide a good starting point for what the future held. Like most of my contemporaries I went into the world of commercial photography. I started a studio and began photographing weddings, portraits and events of any kind and specialized in commercial food photography. This was a great tool to gain experience and perspective but I knew that again, there was simply more out there for me. After over a decade of commercial photography I began to follow the world of Fine Art and in particular the photographic artists. I knew almost immediately that I had found my path. Armed with several years of experience and litterally hundreds of thousands of frames under my hand I stepped into the world of Fine Art Photography and have never looked back. Using the experience and style of perspective that I had cultivated I have, over the past few years created a unique style of art that I now share with the world.
My art has become a reflection of our world and the perspective I have of it. The images I create while being classic in some subjects of content are an extension of my view, my emotion and my perspectives of everyday life both now and in the past. I'm most often called a realist with a camera and have often been told that my diversity and unique view of life and the world is my greatest gift. Many of my pieces reflect a historical or vintage feel in them. These come from my love of the greatest times in my life. My childhood and early adult years. Being a child of the 60's and a teen of the 70's I often create pieces that seem to visit those decades in feel. I am also a spiritual person and many of my nature and landscape images have been called "soulfully intimate landscapes" because of my personal shooting perspective. I feel that each of us is connected to our world and every animal and creation within it. I believe that everything has its beauty and my goal is to capture that in a way that reflects the realism of our world while expanding our appreciation of each aspect of it.
Over the year I will post photos, thoughts and sometimes ideas in this blog that I hope will be enjoyable, uplifting and perhaps thought provoking for you. Pleae join me now and lets explore the art of realism together.
All the best,
David
